CARIFTA Swim Team Leaves on Thursday

This Thursday, 1st of April 2010, a Team of seven will leave Grenada to compete in the 2010 CARIFTA Swimming Championship in Jamaica, from 1st to the 7th April.

On Thursday a Team of seven, will leave Grenada to compete in the 2010 CARIFTA Swimming Championship in Jamaica, from 1st to the 7th April. The team’s Coach is Miss. Nataly Regis, Assistant Coach Eduardo,the team’s Manager is Mrs. Diana Hopkin. The team members are Oreoluwa Cherebin age 11-12 years girls, Correy Ollivierre 11-12years boys, Andrew Hopkin 13-14years male and Nicholas Coard 15-17 Male.

This team had an outstanding performance at both local and international Meets for 2009-2010 and have set records some nationally and internationally.Oreoluwa, Correy and Andrew are all breaststrokers have medals to show for this. They were outstanding at the recent O.E.C.S Swim Championship last November and at the Trinidad Invitational Meet in December 2009, with gold and silver in the breaststroke.

In February they had an outstanding performance in Barbados Long Course Invitational medaling again with gold and silver in the 50m,100m and 200m breastroke. Both Oreoluwa and Correy took part in the Grenada Annual intenational Cross Habour and both placed first in their age group and came in under an hour.They were also successful in the Gouyave Open Water Swim placing first in their age group.

Nicholas Coard

Nicholas trains under Eduardo at Florida. He is sixteen years and swims in the 15-17 age group male. His best chance at medaling will be 200m back stroke in which he medalled last year and is our national record holder. He went to Rome worlds in 2009 and was the top male Swimmer for the year 2009.

This Team with the exception of Oreoluwa, this being her first time, has competed in the last CARIFTA Championship reaching finals and meddling with bronze in the backstroke.

We encourage them to go out there and represent Grenada proudly, and Grenadians please throw your support behind this strong Grenadian team by praying for them and encouraging them.
