What a way to spend a Friday morning, sitting in the sun cheering on the best and brightest of Grenada’s teenagers at the Inter-Secondary swim meet. Friday 4th December was that day. With 8 senior schools and 80 enthusiastic swimmers Grenada saw what a great sport swimming really is. Mr. Swan from the Ministry of sport spoke at the opening ceremony of sportsman ship and the enjoyment of competing for your school and the opportunities in swimming as coaches and sports administrators. He highlighted the achievements of Nataly Regis , the Ministries head swimming coordinator who organised the event. Mr. Ollivierre who represented the main event sponsor First Caribbean bank also spoke of how swimming keeps our youth healthy and busy promoting good attitude, all areas the bank supports. Dr. Jane Noel, President of GASA was delighted to see so many teenagers present and encouraged everyone to have an enjoyable event.
The swimming really did prove to be spectacular. Names that have become synonymous with swimming were present plus many new comers. The open 100 freestyle opened the event and St. Josephs Convent stamped their authority on the female event with a decisive win by Ayesha Noel, second Kevlian Andrews. In the boys Chris Regis of Boca was dominant with Westmorlands Andrew Hopkin taking second.
The events unfolded over backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. In the 12 & under age group female Oreoluwa Cherebin of SJC was unstoppable winning 4 of her 5 individual events being pipped to second in the 50m backstroke by Valorie Andrews also of SJC. They were backed up by Kendra Moore of SJC with a strong showing by Westmorlands Ashley Yearwood.In the boys Corey Ollivierre of GBSS won 4 out of 5 events , again pipped in Backstroke by Justin Steele of Westmorland taking gold and Calum Noel of PBC the silver. Ryan Minors of Westmorland took 3 silvers and Bradley Pope of GBSS made a great showing in the breastroke. In the 13-14 age group female Ayesha Noel of SJC gained a perfect score winning all 5 individual events and both open races. Chinwe Oluonye of Westmorland took 4 silver and 3 bronze and Amanda Gordon of SJC finished third in the age group. The boys was a closely contested event. Corey LaTouche of GBSS who has been out of swimming for a while proved his talent in freestyle and butterfly. Andrew Hopkin of Westmorland won the breastroke and Kahlil John of GBSS the 50m freestyle. In 15 and over female again SJC shone through with Kevlian Andrews winning her 5 individual events. Charlotte Manson of Westmorland took 5 silver and Khadra Moore of SJC the bronze . The ‘big boys’ in 15 + brought great excitement with brother Chris and Richard Regis of Boca fighting to the finish in all events. Chris won over with a perfect 7 golds , Richard 7 silver .
The final relay saw the SJC girls winning over Westmorland and GBSS flying to gold over Westmorland silver, Boca bronze in a nail biting finish.
Over all in the womens event St. Josephs Convent St Georges won with 276.5 pts, Westmorland 2nd with 204.5 pts and Beacon High 3rd with 28 pts. Westerhall was 4th and St. Mark ‘s Secondary 5th.
In the boys Grenada Boys Secondary won a narrow victory with 185 pts, Westmorland 2nd with 176 pts and Boca Secondary 3rd with 134 pts. Presentation Brothers 4th, Beacon 5th and St. Marks Secondary 6th.

13-14 – Ayesha Noel SJC Corey LaTouche GBSS
15 & Over – Kevlian Andrews SJC Chris Regis Boca
